Superhero Community Cleanup Event Unites Portland & East Haddam
Portland, CT & East Haddam, CT — May 24–25, 2025
Superhero Training Corps (STC), a newly formed Connecticut-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, in proud collaboration with the towns of Portland and East Haddam and their Sustainability Teams, is excited to announce the first of many Superhero Community Cleanup Events — a two-day, multi-site volunteer effort dedicated to cleaning and beautifying our shared public spaces.
Taking place Saturday and Sunday, May 24–25, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, this event invites families, students, local residents, and civic groups to roll up their sleeves and help clear trash, recyclables, and debris from key downtown areas.
- Portland efforts will focus on Main Street and the surrounding downtown district.
- East Haddam will focus on Town Street to the American Legion Fields, along each town's respective Memorial Day parade route.
If time permits, the cleanup effort will expand beyond these initial areas. Participants are welcome to join on one or both days, and students will be eligible for community service hour sign-offs. Everyone is encouraged to bring their superhero spirit — and optional costumes or capes — to help energize the event in true STC style.
“This is about more than just picking up trash,” says Tyler Semrow, Executive Director of Superhero Training Corps. “It’s about showing up for our communities, protecting the places we love, and proving that when we come together, try harder, and do more, we can become better versions of ourselves.”
Cleanup supplies, safety vests, and grabbers will be provided on-site. Volunteers are encouraged to register in advance to ensure we have enough supplies, but walk-ups are always welcome. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own gloves, grabbers, or bags if available.
